Winford Floyd Rush
Of Violet Hill, Arkansas
Winford Floyd Rush, son of the late Troy Ausbie Rush and Emma Gilbert Rush, was born August 29, 1938 in Red Hill, Arkansas near Knob Creek. He departed this life at his home in Violet Hill, surrounded by his family, December 10, 2023, at the age of 85 years, 3 months and 11 days. He was united in marriage to Attie Jessamine Jeffery September 20, 1958 and to this union two daughters were born. He was a loving husband, son, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather, friend and provider. Winford was a man of many interests and hobbies and would attempt to do almost anything. In fact, he always told his daughters, "Don't ever say I can't do, you can do anything you set your mind to." He truly believed this. He loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, which he called his "Big Hawg," and flying his own airplane, which he did until failing health forced him to quit. He enjoyed pheasant hunting in Nebraska, duck hunting on Swan Lake and spoonbill fishing on Osage River. He enjoyed traveling with his family in their motor home, especially to Yellowstone National Park and various Bluegrass Festivals. He played mandolin and enjoyed sitting in on the occasional jam session with other pickers. His working years were spent with the Kansas City Gas Service Company. After securing his retirement, he moved the family back to Arkansas where he started his own dozer and backhoe business, as well as raising cattle on their farm near Violet Hill.
Winford did many things in his life but he always said the most important thing he ever did was accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at the age of thirteen. He was a life-long member and deacon of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church. He left this world at peace knowing that his entire family has been saved by God's grace and will join him in heaven at their appointed time. (Hebrews 9:27).
He is survived by his wife of 65 years: Attie Rush of the home; two daughters: Linda Janiece Box and husband Mike and Kimberly Kaye Powell and husband Kelly all of Violet Hill; four grandchildren: Jamie Lee Box Fulbright, Michael Tyler Box and Jonathan Levi Powell all of Violet Hill and Lindsey Michelle George and husband David of Fort Stewart, Georgia; three great grandchildren: Michael Joe Fulbright, Everleigh Ann Fulbright and Amelia Claire George; one step grandson: Jarrod Box Bowren; two step great granddaughters: Presley and Blakeley Bowren of Wichita, Kansas. One brother: Troy Clifton Rush and one sister: Catherine Bell Yancey and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Paul Nolan Rush and one infant brother.
Visitation and funeral service will be Wednesday, December 13 at Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Randy Bailey officiating. Burial will follow at Violet Hill Cemetery.
