Obituary

Wanda Lea Curtis Acklin

Of Culp, Arkansas

On July 11, 2022, Wanda Lea Acklin passed away at the age of 88.  She was a loving and devoted woman who had many roles, but the most she cherished were mom and grandma. Born in Culp, Arkansas in 1933, Wanda was a homemaker, a strong woman of faith, and a talented cook, baker, and seamstress.  She loved spending time in the kitchen – her cinnamon rolls were to die for, and her grandkids can attest her homemade biscuits and gravy were always on the menu when they came to visit. Over the years, she made countless quilts, cakes, and floral arrangements. If you ever had the pleasure of seeing her labor of love – you would know how gifted she was. Wanda met Dewey Acklin for the first time on a school bus. Later, he asked if he could take her to church at Pretty Knob for the first date. In December of 1951, she married Dewey in Mountain View, AR. Over the first few years, they moved around a few places until they found a cabin on 5 acres which they expanded upon to the current farm. Here, they raised three children Dean, Doyle, and Inita. Wanda was strong-willed, caring, and had a silly sense of humor that would make you crack a smile. She lived a simple life. It didn't take much to make her happy – a phone call, a visit, being in the garden amongst her flowers, or just an afternoon on her back porch bird watching and admiring the view. In her later years, her favorite pastime was doing word searches, coloring, puzzles, and spending time with family. Her family was the most important people in the world to her. She looked forward to having them fill her home around the holidays. Wanda overcame many health obstacles throughout her life, yet she continued to prevail time after time. She was a very strong woman and fighter until the end. She will be deeply missed but the precious memories will be treasured forever.

She is survived by two sons:  Dean Acklin and wife Joyce of Gainesville, Missouri and Doyle Acklin and wife Janice of Culp; one daughter:  Inita Jacobelli and husband Bob of Mountain Home; seven grandchildren:  Lacie (Robert) Audeoud, Robbie Acklin, Darcie (Mike) King, Rockie (Trish) Acklin, Candice (Shane) Collins, Kristin (Cole) Frazier, Austin (Kaysen) Jacobelli; eight great grandchildren:  Dalton Audeoud, Lexie Audeoud, Clayton King, Levi King, Lakely Anderson, Aims Collins, Trail Acklin, Timber Acklin, Will (Alex) Sisney; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and many good friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers:  Otis Curtis, Afton Curtis, three sisters:  Elnora Branscum, Esta Mae Franks, Jaunita Hankins.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 14 from 6-8 p.m. at Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Calico Rock.  Funeral service will be Friday, July 15 at 2:00 p.m. at Calico Rock Funeral Chapel.  Burial will be at Table Rock Cemetery.
