Shelby J. Upton

of Guion, Arkansas

Shelby J. Upton, son of the late Jesse Upton and Pearl Stevens Upton, was born November 12, 1929 in Guion, Arkansas. He departed this life September 24, 2019 in Batesville, Arkansas at the age of 89 years, 10 months and 12 days. He was united in marriage to Juanita Todd January 26, 1952 and together they raised two children. Shelby was a graduate of Mount Pleasant High School. Shelby proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He spent his life as a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, provider and friend. Most of his working years were spent as postmaster of Guion post office. He retired after many years of employment. He was of the Methodist faith and a long time member of Guion Methodist Church. Shelby loved the farm in Guion and spent many hours raising cattle and enjoying the outdoors.

Shelby is survived by his wife of 67 years: Juanita Upton of Batesville; one daughter and son-in-law: Sheila and Bob Stobaugh of Little Rock; one son and daughter-in-law: Mike and Latoyah of Guion; two siblings: Bobby Upton of Texarkana and Mary Temple of Little Rock; three grandchildren: Shelby Todd Upton and wife Amber, Heather Upton, Michael Nettles and wife Linsey; nine great grandchildren: Kristin Jarvis, Makayla Herring, Shelby Herring, Cheyanne Herring, McKenna Owens, Skyler Upton, Asa Upton, Addision Upton and Connor Nettles; three great great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and many good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister: Ima Jean Jones.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p. m. September 27 at Guion United Methodist Church on Hwy 58. Rev. Larry Sellers will be officiating. Arrangements by Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne.
