Shannon Dale Womack, son of the late Hayden Womack and Mildred Shannon Womack, was born July 31, 1943 in Senath, Missouri. He departed this life February 2, 2024 in Melbourne, Arkansas at the age of 80 years, 6 months and 2 days. Shannon was a 1961 graduate of Melbourne High School. After graduating high school, he was united in marriage to Murlie Owens and together they raised two sons. Shortly after being married, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Shannon spent his life as a loving son, brother, husband, grandfather, great grandfather, provider and friend. During his working years, he installed carpeting, worked at North Central Correctional Unit and served 12 years as Mayor of Melbourne. He was a founding member and elder at Melbourne Community Church. Shannon enjoyed time with his family and the time spent at the coffee shop with friends.
Shannon is survived by his wife of 61 years: Murlie Womack of the home; two sons: Paul Womack and wife Regena of Melbourne and Ricky Womack and wife Kathy of Tuckerman; two siblings: Audrey Campbell of Batesville and Theresa Gail Blackwell and husband James of Senath, Missouri; five grandchildren: Jackie Womack of Portland, Oregon, Allie Hare and husband Ben of Russellville, Brandon Womack and wife Kate of Melbourne, Shyana Gavin of Jonesboro and Cora Womack of Melbourne; three great grandchildren: Gavin and Gordon Hare and Amelia Womack and a host of other relatives and many good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers: Billy John Womack, Roger Womack, Jackie Womack and Myron Womack and one sister: Marilyn Womack.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 6 from 6-8 p.m. at Melbourne Community Church. Funeral service will be Wednesday, February 7 at 2:00 p.m. at Melbourne Community Church with Ricky Womack and Will and Judy Minick officiating. Burial will follow at Oxford Cemetery under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne.
Pallbearers: Brandon Womack, Ben Hare, Mark Herrington, Tim Whitehurst, Ronnie Gillihan and Dale Walters.
Honorary Pallbearers: Melbourne High School Graduating Class of 1961.
