Roy Hansel Killian Jr.
March 27, 1944 – July 11, 2025
Roy Hansel Killian Jr. ("Big Roy") passed from this life on July 11, 2025. He was born on March 27, 1944, in Pineville, Arkansas, to Viola Schulz Killian and Roy Killian Sr. His father was killed in World War II when Roy was just a few months old. Though he never had the opportunity to know him, his father's name and legacy remained an enduring part of his story.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and his brother, Andy Killian, as well as his brothers -in-law, Paul Hall and Garry Duggins.
Roy is survived by his two children: Bambi Killian Bowden and Roy Hansel Killian III (Candace Killian); his grandchildren: Gavin Galloway, Millard Bowden, Kylie Killian (Donnie Ciorciari), Vander Bowden, and Lindsay (Michael) Johnson; and his great-grandchildren: Connor Galloway, Heidi McMahill, Bear McMahill, Addie Johnson, Salem Ciorciari, and Presley Johnson. He is also survived by his siblings: Peggy Killian Hall, Jerry Killian, and Ida Killian Duggins; his sister-in-law, Shirley Killian Leach; a host of nieces and nephews; and his longtime friend, Coleen Swan.
Roy was a force to be reckoned with—known for his unmistakable presence, grit, and unshakable will. He loved his children fiercely and found his greatest joy in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were truly the light of his life.
He was Baptist by faith, and his belief in God was steady and personal.
Those who knew Roy say it best:
"He was tougher than a pine knot."
"He was definitely one of a kind."
"If you were lucky enough to be loved by him, you KNEW it."
"A good man. A good friend. Loved by those who knew him."
And over and over again: "He was one of a kind."
Roy's legacy lives on through his family—his children, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren—and through the many stories, memories, and moments he left behind.
A celebration of his life will be held at Pineville Cemetery on Monday, July 14th at 10:00 a.m.
The family asks that you honor Roy's memory by sharing a story, lending a hand, teaching your grandchildren something new, or simply loving your people well—just as he did.
"Go rest high on that mountain,
Son, your work on earth is done."
