Robert Jounier Messer
of Mount Pleasant, Arkansas
Robert Jounier Messer, son of the late Robert Messer, Sr. and Ersula Tweed Messer, was born September 17, 1924, in Clintcho, Virginia. He departed this life on November 3, 2019, at his home in Mount Pleasant, Arkansas at the age of 95 years, 1 month and 17 days. He was united in marriage to Ruby Tipton March 8, 1945, in Clintwood, Virginia and together they raised two children. Robert proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II assigned to a USS Ticonderoga CV-14 Aircraft Carrier. He spent his life as a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, provider, and friend. Most of his working years were spent at General Motors in Ypsilanti, Michigan, retiring after thirty years of employment. He was of the Cumberland Presbyterian faith and a member of Barren Fork Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Mount Pleasant.
He is survived by his wife of 74 years: Ruby Messer at the home; one son and daughter-in-law: Greg and Jeanie Messer of Mount Pleasant; one daughter and son-in-law: Deborah and Dennis Montgomery of Colorado; three grandchildren: Allyson Gillihan and husband Sam of Colorado, Matthew Montgomery and wife Eren of Colorado and Monica and Leo Burke of Michigan; five great-grandchildren: Henry Gillihan and Peter Gillihan both of Colorado, Chelsea Clouse, Cassaundra Messer and Jessica Hicks all of Michigan; four great-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and many good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Mavis Hoyt, Dusty Messer, Doris Messer; one grandson: Gregory Messer, Jr.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, November 6 at 11:00 a.m. at Barren Fork Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Mount Pleasant with Alan Meinzer officiating. Burial will be at Barren Fork Cemetery under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne.
Pallbearers: Levi McCurley, Donnie Fulbright, Barry Bray, Miles Bray, Bruce Qualls, Jerry Malott.
