Peter LeRoy DeWitt
Of Zion, Arkansas
Peter LeRoy DeWitt, son of the late William Claude DeWitt and Hazel Fern Knolton DeWitt, was born October 19, 1932 in Gange County, Michigan. He departed this life June 2, 2025 in Melbourne, Arkansas at the age of 92. Peter proudly served in the United States Army as a gunner on a tank. Peter was married twice in his life, first to Wilma Gene VanNortrick, after her death he made his way out to Arkansas and met Rosemay Lankford and they were united in marriage until her death in 2023. Peter spent his life as a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, provider and friend. Most of his working years were spent as a commercial truck driver. He was an avid fisherman and a bee keeper. Peter was a member of the Salvation Army for over 40 years and often attended St. Mary of the Mount Catholic Church with Rosemary.
Peter is survived by four children: Mike and Lee DeWitt of Auburn, Washington, Bethany Hay of Washington, Denise Brown of Raymond, Washington and Karen and Lionel Carter of South Bend, Washington; two stepsons: Henry and Dianne Lankford of Zion and Billy Jack Lankford and Teresa of Zion; one daughter-in-law: Calvarena "Callie" Dewitt of Zion; two sisters: Elizabeth Jorgensen of Medford, Oregon, Wilma Claudine Bagwell of Skagway, Alaska; 24 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; several great grandchildren; three nephews: Steve Bagwell of Skagway, Alaska, Rick Bagwell of Spokane, Washington, Jeff Bagwell of San Jose, California; two nieces: Brenda and Sherry and a host of other relatives and many good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son: William Lee and first grandson: Benjamin Lee.
Memorial service will be held Thursday, June 12 at 1:00 p.m. at Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne with Alan Cartwright officiating.
Honorary Pallbearers: Billy Jack Lankford, William Charles Lankford, A.J. Lankford, Henry Charles Lankford, Jr., Brandon Lankford, Will Lankford.
