Paul E. "Gene" Lockie, son of the late Paul L. Lockie and Amy Jorgenson Lockie, was born January 19, 1925 in Clark's Grove, Minnesota. He departed this life September 14, 2020 in Calico Rock, Arkansas at the age of 95 years, 7 months and 26 days. Gene was born and raised on a dairy farm in Charles City, Iowa. He attended school in Charles City Schools. In May 1943 he graduated with honors. Gene was accepted into the Navy V-12 Program. He attended St. Ambrose College before Basic Training at Great Lakes Naval Academy in Waukegan, Illinois. He went on to Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois to complete the V-12 Program. In June 1946 he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering. During his time in the Navy and college, he met and fell in love with Reva Nell Owens. They were united in marriage June 25, 1947 and together they raised four daughters. Gene was always social and very active in the communities he lived in. He was a member of 2020 Club, Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, American Legion, Elks Club, Moose Club and served on the Calico Rock Museum Board and the Calico Rock-Pineville Industrial Committee. He was a member of Calico Rock Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder. He was a passionate and active member of Ozark Gateway Tourism Committee. He also ran a small but successful RV park for 30 years. He was always ready to lend a hand, ear and yes even money.
Gene is survived by four daughters: Terry Lockie of Homer, Nebraska, Janis Lockie and husband Gil Tofte of Milton, Washington, Nancy Valladares of Calico Rock and Lori Tibbits and husband Merle of Calico Rock; two grandchildren: Tiffany Kobeck of Round Lake, Illinois and Brent Salmons of Virginia; seven great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and many good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one sister: Virginia Hammel; one grandson: Sean Vann and one son-in-law: Will Buell.
Visitation will be held Thursday, September 17 from 7-9 p.m. at Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Calico Rock. Funeral service will be held Friday, September 18 at 2:00 p.m. at Calico Rock Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Jason Chambers officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in St. Charles City, Iowa under the direction of Houser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City, Iowa.
