Nellie "Nell" O'Neal Whitehurst

Of Melbourne, Arkansas

Nellie O'Neal Whitehurst, daughter of the late Curtis Finis O'Neal and Annie Delling O'Neal, was born May 14, 1935 in Lunenburg, Arkansas.  She departed this life May 21, 2025 in Melbourne, Arkansas at the age of 90.  Nell was united in marriage to Y. D. Whitehurst, Jr. March 26, 1953 and together they raised two children.  Nell spent her life as a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, homemaker and friend.  She was a meticulous housekeeper and gardener.  She was of the Baptist faith and a member of Melbourne First Baptist Church.

Nell is survived by one son: Tim Whitehurst and wife Carol of Melbourne; one granddaughter:  Meagen Whitehurst of Bradford; one sister:  Patsy Whitehurst of Sherwood;  three nieces:  Lisa Lemay (Mike) of Beebe, Robin Long (Ron) of Sherwood, Jennifer Burdette of Edgewood, Kentucky; one great nephew:  Josh Long (Ashley) of North Little Rock; three great nieces:  Shana Settle (Zach) of Sherwood, Baylee Eads (Garrett) of Beebe, Makenzie Martin (Waylon) of Beebe and a host of other relatives and many good friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter:  Teresa Whitehurst; one sister:  Lera Richardson; one niece: Natasha Puryear; one nephew:  David Richardson; one great nephew:  David Michael Richardson.

Visitation and funeral service will be Tuesday, May 27 at Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m.   Funeral service with Doyne Robertson officiating will begin at 2:00 p.m.  Burial will follow at Lunenburg Cemetery.
