Obituary

James Troy Gaston, 48 of Melbourne, Arkansas, passed away on October 1, 2024 after a 20-year battle with brain cancer.

Troy was born on February 3, 1976 to Shirley and James H. Gaston. After Troy graduated from Melbourne High School in 1994, he went on to graduate from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 1998 and earned his J.D. from Washington University School of Law in 2001.

After graduating from law school, Troy practiced law in Greenwood, becoming a partner at Walters, Gaston, Allison, and Parker Law Firm. Troy established himself as a premier lawyer in Arkansas, with a reputation for being diligent in helping clients in the community. Troy had the knowledge and experience to handle various complex cases, and he was known for his professionalism and personal attention. In his role at the firm, Troy was known for giving back to the community, especially in his work to donate and smoke turkeys for families who needed them on Thanksgiving.

Troy was the proud father of two children, Jack and Olivia. He loved to talk about their personalities and accomplishments. Troy intentionally created fun memories with his family as he planned trips for them all across the United States and the world, and he was known for taking Jack and Olivia to restaurants and teaching them to enjoy all kinds of food.

Troy loved Star Wars movies, Westerns, cooking good steak, the Saint Louis Cardinals, and treating his pets like family members.

Troy was a Christian, and he often spoke about how Jesus was with him during his treatments. He wanted everyone he met to know that the love and presence of Jesus is the greatest comfort in the world.

Troy was predeceased by his mother Shirley Gaston. He is survived by his children, Jack Gaston and Olivia Gaston, his father James H. Gaston, his brother, David Gaston (Laurie), his sisters Sara Barton (John), and Karen Dellinger. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, James C. Gaston, Hillary Walsh, Hannah Ledbetter, David Gaston, Nate Barton, Brynn Barton, Abby Sandlin, and Gray Dellinger, his aunts Connie Jackson, Sue Barksdale, and Jane Lamb, and beloved cousins and dear friends.

The Gaston family sincerely thanks Troy's compassionate caregivers at Woodcrest Assisted Living in Batesville and Pioneer Nursing Home in Melbourne.
