James Edward "Jim" Muncy was born on April 25, 1939 in Lone Star, Arkansas and entered the gates of heaven on July 11, 2026 in Calico Rock, Arkansas.
Jim lived a life full of moments that are worth of a story, and he was an amazing historian and storyteller. As a young boy, he rode a horse from Lone Star to the very first Pioneer Day. While living in Washington state, he won a tree identification competition. While at Arkansas Tech University, he studied business and made friends with people from across the state. He taught school at Evening Shade then went on to retire from the US Post Office after 28 years. He was still able to recall someone's box number and many zip codes.
He was a cow farmer, an avid hunter, a fence builder, a politician, a teacher, and a volunteer. He loved a chance to visit and tell a story or brag on his family. He took joy in a drive to check the cows and fences or to look for a buck or a covey of quail. He loved his church family at Melbourne First Baptist Church and visiting with folks at all the local businesses.
Everyone would agree that his favorite thing was his family, by blood or by choice. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Norma Ruth Shaver Muncy. He leaves behind his daughters KaLyn Nethercot and husband Stoney, and NiKole Owens and husband Aron. He always had a story or a joke for his grandchildren: Spencer Nethercot/Caroline, Emma Shinn, Will Shinn, Kate Crawford/Zack, Maddie McSpadden/Jared, and Scarlett Owens. He shared a birthday with his great grandson Samuel James Crawford. He claimed a host of others as his family as well.
Jim had a great sense of peace about a life well lived that was full of accomplishments and a future secure because of his faith. He loved people, both teaching them and making them smile. He had dignity, character, and purpose. He was known in the family for a few profound statements- You're fancy as a mashed potato sandwich. It's too far from your heart to hurt you. And "Boys Flying Kites", a reminder for all of us to think before we speak.
Pallbearers are Spencer Nethercot, Zack Crawford, Kenny Stapleton, Randy Jones, Paul Shaver, Casey Shaw, Jessy Smith, and Blake Bledsoe. Honorary pallbearers are Ronnie Loggains, James Loggains, John Shaver, Bob Shaver, Ben Cooper, Hayden Wyatt, and Seth Wortham. Funeral arrangements are by Eddie's family funeral Home with visitation Monday July 13 from 5-7 pm and service at 10am on Tuesday July 14 with burial at the Melbourne Cemetery to follow.
