Gwendolyn L. Melton Conyers

Gwendolyn L. (Melton) Conyers, age 83, of Mt. Pleasant Arkansas died peacefully on Monday, May 6, 2024. Granny Gwen, as she was affectionately known by many, was born on May 9, 1940, at Newburg Arkansas to Leonard and Eunice Gillihan Melton.

Granny Gwen was a dedicated Army Officer's wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many. She spent over twenty years serving as a foster grandparent at Mt. Pleasant Elementary School and was loved by all. She loved to cook, gardening, shopping, and was an avid reader.

Granny Gwen is survived by three sons, Ronald Conyers (Teresa) of Melbourne, Steven Conyers of Mt. Pleasant, and Michael Conyers (Janice)  of Little Rock, one daughter, Madelyn Milligan (Steve) of Cave City, and two daughters-in-law; Patty Conyers of Calico Rock and Debby Parker of Ash Flat. She had 13 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren (#33 on the way), 1 great-great grandchild, and countless other friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Douglas Ray Conyers, and her son, David Lynn Conyers.

A private burial will take place Saturday, May 11 at 12:30 at Barren Fork Cemetery followed by a public memorial service to begin at 2:00 p.m. at the Mt. Pleasant Elementary School pavilion. Long time family friend and pastor, Bro. Bruce Qualls, will be officiating. Please bring your own chair and come expecting a celebration.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Granny Gwen's honor to Arkansas Children's Hospital.
