Gladys Fern Whitfield Estes

Of Wideman, Arkansas

Gladys Fern Whitfield Estes, daughter of the late Herron Thompson Whitfield and Nellie Doris Hively Whitfield, was born August 25, 1942 in Pineville, Arkansas.  She departed this life November 20, 2021 in Mountain Home, Arkansas at the age of 79 years, 2 months and 20 days.  She was united in marriage to William Earl Estes September 14, 1962 and together they raised one son.  Fern spent her life as a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, homemaker and friend.  Most of her working years were spent as Postmaster at Wideman and postal clerk at Calico Rock. She retired after 18 years of employment.  She was of the Presbyterian faith and an active member of Pineville Cumberland Presbyterian Church.  She served as Elder, Song Leader and Sunday School Teacher.  Fern was Assistant Clerk of the White River Presbytery of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church for many years. She enjoyed studying the genealogy of her family and extended family.

Fern is survived by her husband of 59 years:  William Earl Estes of the home; one son:  Eric Estes and long time family friend Steve Hefley of Tulsa; two brothers:  Carl Whitfield and wife Joyce of Pineville and Rex Whitfield and wife Carol of Calico Rock; two sisters:  Katherine Owens of Pineville and Betty Floyd and husband Ronnie of Brockwell; nine nieces and nephews:  Kenny (Pam) Owens of Mountain Home, Brent (Amy) Klein of  Northfield, Minnesota , Scott (Melissa)  Whitfield of North Little Rock , Kathie (Rickie) Grigg of Dolph,  Beth Whitfield of Pineville, Jill (Steven ) Marshall of North Little Rock, Ron Klein of Pineville , Sarah (Steven) Mitchell of Pineville, Nancy (Jason) Horton of Russellville and a host of other relatives and many good friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister:  Joyce Klein; two nephews:  Jimmy Owens and Larry Owens and two brothers-in-law:  Junior Owens and Lawrence Klein.

Visitation will be held Monday, November 22 from 6-8 p.m. at Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Calico Rock.  Funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 23 at 2:00 p.m. at Eddie's Family Funeral Home with Wayne Wood and Chris Anderson officiating.  Burial will be at Pineville Cemetery.

Pallbearers:  Loren Johnson, Jerry Skidmore, Terry Seay, Kelly Hatman, Tim Killian, Steven Mitchell.
