Gene Jones

of Sage, Arkansas

Gene Jones, son of the late Hurley and Kathrine Horton Jones, was born June 15, 1944 in Beedeville, Arkansas. He departed this life December 16, 2018 at his home in Sage, Arkansas at the age of 74 years, 6 months and 1 day. He was a builder by trade and founded Mill Creek Log Homes, until he sold it to retire at the age of 63. He was an accomplished business man, well respected in his field and by his community. He started out in the log home business with one old planer that needed to be worked on more often than not and built up to a customized, made to order mill. His only advertisement - small trade papers and word of mouth. The quality of his product spoke for itself and spread far and wide. He shipped logs all over the county, including as far away as Oregon. He met a lot of interesting people along the way. Once he was paid $10,000 in quarters for a load of finished logs. He thought it was funny - his banker did not.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years: Mary Jones of the home; one brother: Ronnie Jones and wife Mary L of Austin, Arkansas; three daughters: Rebecca Murphy of Enola, Arkansas, Debbie Roberts of Ward, Arkansas and Gena Dang of Del Rio, Texas; five grandchildren: Labon Fossengrives-Behm, Gabrella Dang, Fallon Roberts, Lindsey Freeman and Joshua Roberts; five great grandchildren; three nieces and a host of extended family and many good friends.

Visitation and funeral service will be Thursday, December 20 at Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon. Funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m.
