Ida "Gaye" McGinness Wood

Of Calico Rock, Arkansas

Ida "Gaye" McGinness Wood, daughter f the late Orous McGinness and Martha Elizabeth "Lizzy Foster McGinness was born June 15, 1942, at home on their farm in Wild Cherry.  She departed this life June 27, 2023 in Calico Rock, Arkansas at the age of 81 years and 12 days.  She was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Wayne Wood, June 3, 1962 and together, the raised two daughters. Gaye spent her life as a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, homemaker and friend.  She was of the Presbyterian faith a charter member of the Fellowship Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Mountain Home and later attended the Calico Rock Cumberland Presbyterian Church.  Although Gaye spent 20 plus years in banking with most of those years at the First National Bank of Izard County in Calico Rock, her most important role in life was that of a minister's wife.  Wayne will tell you, that even though he was the ordained minister, Gaye was the one with the unyielding faith and the Godliest, and they were a team in ministering.  After retiring from banking, Gaye became very involved with the Cumberland Presbyterian Women's Ministry (CPWM) and in 1999 – 2000, she served in the highest position as the International President of the CPWM.  One of Gaye's most enjoyable pastimes was genealogy.  Through her years of investigating family history, it was discovered that she is a direct descendant of Barton Stone, the founder of the Disciples of Christ Christian Church.  Gaye is survived by her husband of 61 years:  Wayne Wood of the home; two daughters:  Waynna Dockins and husband Rocky of Dolph, Lisa Sanders and husband Mark of Wild Cherry; five grandchildren Brian (Taylor) Sanders of Calico Rock, Daniel (Elizabeth) Sanders of Dolph, Logan (Alexis) Dockins of Dolph, Whittany (J. W.) Mullins of Batesville and Brittany (Glenn) Morrell of Wickes, Arkansas.  She is also survived by her prides and joys, her 8 great grandchildren:  Emily Sanders, Alexis Dockins, Sydney Sanders, Reagan Morrell, Arabella Mullins, Callan Sanders, Kenna Sanders, and Kaylin Sanders.  Gay is also survived by her first cousin: Lavonne Wallace of Calico Rock and a host of other relatives and good friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

The visitation will be Friday, June 30 from 6-8 p.m. at Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Calico Rock.  Funeral service will be Saturday, July 1 at 10:00 a.m. at Calico Rock Cumberland Presbyterian Church.  Burial will follow at Spring Creek Cemetery.

Memorials in Gaye's honor may be made to the Calico Rock Museum, 105 Main Street, Calico Rock, 72519, to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church Trimble House Project, 3050 N Boswell Road, Calico Rock, Arkansas, 72519 or the charity of your choice.
