Funeral service for Mr. Doyne Bates, age 73, will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, April 1, 2019, at the Oak Hill Baptist Church, Plain Dealing, LA, with Dr. Steve Pettey officiating under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Plain Dealing, LA. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, April 2, 2019 in Melbourne Cemetery, Melbourne, AR. Burial will follow under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home, Melbourne.

Visitation will be held Monday, April 1, 2019, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Oak Hill Baptist Church, Plain Dealing.

Mr. Bates was born on November 22, 1945 to Oscar and Ollie Gillihan Bates in Melbourne, AR and passed away on Friday, March 29, 2019 in Bossier City, LA. He retired from the city of Shreveport having worked for 23 years in the water department as a senior operator. He loved bass fishing and shooting pool. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Leolia "Belle" Hall Bates of Plain Dealing; son, Derick Bates and wife, Sharon of Plain Dealing; daughter, Tanya Mitchell of Fayetteville, AR; four grandchildren, Weston Bates, Macy Bates, Megan Bates, Lauren Holly Mitchell; sister, Mary Stringer of Athens, AL and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Bates was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Russell Bates, Billy Wayne Bates, Wendell Bates, Gary Bates; and sister, Cletta Lowry.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Mabry, Chad Sullivan, Jerry Gibbs, Kyle Wilson, Donnie Maness, and Leslie "Legs" Wootten.
