Doris Imagene Yates Sowell

Of Melbourne, Arkansas

Doris Imagene Yates Sowell, daughter of the late Odis Yates and Brunetta Coffee Yates, was born October 11, 1940 in Bakersfield, California. She departed this life July 10, 2020 in Melbourne, Arkansas at the age of 79 years, 8 months and 29 days. She was united in marriage to Claude Sowell January 28, 1956 in Florence, Arizona and together they raised five children. Doris spent her life as a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, homemaker and friend. Most of her working years were spent working in factories. She was employed by ConAgra in Batesville and Remington Arms Manufacturing in Lonoke, Arkansas. She was of the Baptist faith and a member of Belview Baptist Church in Melbourne.

Doris is survived by five children: Rita Cofer and husband Jerry of Conway, Lynne McClure of Springdale, Tommy Sowell and wife Angie of Hamburg, Melody Carroll and husband Jim of Sage and Ronny Sowell and wife Tina of Sheridan; two brothers: Terry Yates and wife Vicki of Purcell, Oklahoma and Wyatt Yates and wife Mary of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma; two sisters: June Yates of Kentucky and Rose Bobbit of Jonesboro; ten grandchildren: Jonathan Cofer (Megan), Tammy Harris (Jimmy), Justin McClure, Doug McClure, Keith Sowell (Sarah), Kelly Myers (Grant), Joshua Carroll (Heather), Ryan Carroll (Natalie), Emily Delgado (Daniel), Brooke Sowell; fourteen great grandchildren: Macie, Maddie, Jonah Cofer, Dustin Harris, Jaxon McClure, Chandler McClure, Emma Kate Sowell, Abby Grace Sowell, Peyton Myers, Maverick Carroll, Walker Carroll, Ethan Carroll, Katelynn Carroll and Gabriella Delgado and a host of other relatives and many good friends. She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers: Kenneth Yates, Jerry Yates.

Graveside funeral service will be held Monday, July 13 at 2:00 p.m. at Shell Cemetery in Sage, Arkansas under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne.
