Donald Truman Powell
Of Ward, Arkansas
Donald Truman Powell, son of the late Truman Ladell Powell and Tressie Lee Sellars Powell, was born December 17, 1944 in Batesville, Arkansas. He departed this life July 31, 2024 in Little Rock, Arkansas at the age of 79 years, 7 months and 14 days. He was united in marriage to Carol Billingsley and together they raised two sons. Later in life he married Lorrie Carlisle. Don spent his life as a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, provider and friend. He was a master plumber and electrician. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Technology. He became an Industrial Maintenance instructor at Ozarka Technical College and a Robotics and Programmable Controllers instructor at Pulaski County Tech, retiring after 30 years of teaching. Don could design, fix, build, or install anything. He was a Pilot and enjoyed Hunting and Motorcycles. He would hunt Antelope in Wyoming and toured the entire US on his motorcycle. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Fairview Baptist Church in Violet Hill.
Don is survived by two sons: Kelly Powell and wife Kim of Violet Hill and Chris Powell and wife Kim of Bee Branch; one brother: Mark Powell of Phoenix, Arizona; four grandchildren: Kirby Powell (Brianna), Lindsey George (David), Carly Webb (Tyler), Jonathan Powell; three great grandchildren: Addilyn Grace Powell, Amelia Claire George, Kole Jackson Webb; his stepmother: Ceil Powell of Grand Island, Nebraska; two step-brothers: Russ Strickland of North Platt, Nebraska, Steve Strickland of San Antonio, Texas; one step-sister: Pauline Schleiger of Nebraska and a host of other relatives and many good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Carol.
Visitation and funeral service will be Saturday, August 3 at Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Bro. Steve Stephens officiating. Burial will follow at Violet Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers: John Robert Powell, Franklin Powell, Jack Sellars, Marty Sellars, Curtis Billingsley, Brent Weaver.
Honorary Pallbearers: Glen Acrey, Glen Billingsley, J. D. Roberts.
