Clifford Carpenter
of Oxford, Arkansas
Clifford Carpenter, son of the late Owen Herman Carpenter and Artie Smith Carpenter, was born December 26, 1931 in Wideman, Arkansas. He departed this life May 18, 2019 in Melbourne, Arkansas at the age of 87 years, 4 months and 22 days. He was united in marriage to Dessie Laverne Yancey December 23, 1954 in Oxford, Arkansas and together they raised four children. Clifford spent his life as a loving son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather, provider and friend. During his working years, he was employed by White River Shirt Company, retiring after many years of employment. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Pleasant Ridge Missionary Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years: Laverne Carpenter of Oxford; one daughter and son-in-law: Arlene and Chad Brown of Sage; three sons and three daughters-in-law: Dewayne and Pam Carpenter of Little Rock, Harold and Gaye Carpenter of Violet Hill and Randy and Gina Carpenter of Oxford; one brother: Clyde; for sisters: Inez, Joyce, Maxine and Opal; half sister: Rudine; sister-in-law: Mildred Carpenter of Kansas; six grandchildren: Summer Smith (Jared) of West Plains, Missouri, Autumn Wagoner (Drew) of Sage, Michael Brown (Misty) of Sage, Dalton Carpenter of Oxford, Derek Carpenter of Little Rock and Morgan Carpenter of Brockwell; 10 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; half brothers: Rudell Carpenter and Herbert Carpenter and a half sister: Merle.
Visitation and graveside funeral service will be Monday, May 20. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. at Pleasant Ridge Missionary Baptist Church in Oxford. Graveside service will begin at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery with John Lovelace officiating.
