Billie Lowell Stephens, 71, of Melbourne, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday February 8, 2022. He was born in Eunice, New Mexico on April 4,1950. He held several degrees including a doctrine in Philosophy.
Bill joined the army in 1969, serving 22 years, achieving the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3. He retired from the U.S. Army after serving in Desert Storm where he received a Bronze Star for his actions. He worked for several high-tech firms in the Washington D.C. area before moving to Central Texas to work for the Federal Government on software for tactical computer systems being fielded to our combat soldiers. His final retirement took him to Arkansas, only to re-enter the work force as the Veterans Service Officer for Izard County for 3 years before again retiring to work at Barksdale Airforce Base in Louisiana.
Bill always having a passion for veterans, Bill worked from May 29, 2017 through August 4, 2020, he served years in various jobs within the local and regional levels of the VFW, and American Legion Including Commander, Vice-Commander, Finance Officer, and District Commander.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and traveling. He especially enjoyed writing, having published 8 books ranging from science fiction to fairy tales.
Bill was a firm believer in our Lord Jesus Christ and was a member of Midway Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents Norma Jean and Douglas Stephens of Gustine, Texas.
Bill is survived by his wife of 20 years Stacy Stephens
