He was the fourth and last child of Lola after Noble, Theda Mae and Glenna Faye. Alvin lost his Momma, Lola, at age two. He has officiated many funerals, the last one this week. Alvin completed his Masters Degree in Administration and taught school for 34 years, many of these years serving as Elementary Principal. He married Barbara Jean Vest, May 30, 1954. Their only child, Linda Kathleen Wiles, born November 25, 1957. Alvin and Barbara provided a loving home for Linda. She grew up, fell in love and married Dennis Griffin May 29, 1976. Alvin's first grandchild, Jeremy Griffin, was born November 26, 1977, and his second grandchild, Eric Griffin, arrived September 9, 1980. Alvin loved his grandsons and all of his sibling's children and grandchildren. Family was always important to Alvin. Both grandsons are married now, Jeremy married Sara Smith and Eric married Marissa Anderson. Alvin and Barbara always welcomed new family members with open arms. Eric produced the first great grandchildren; Kyra Griffin born July 28, 2004 and Kai Griffin born August 30, 2006. Jeremy and Sara Griffin produced two more great grandchildren for them to dote over and love. Jack Griffin was born August 8, 2013. Hazel Griffin was born July 16, 2015. Barbara Wiles went to heaven June 2, 2012. Three months later, September 2, 2012, Linda's father-in-law, Darcel Griffin went to heaven. During the following months Alvin and Robbie Griffin consoled each other through their grief. Soon the friendship turned into love and Alvin married his second love and wife Robbie Griffin. Alvin and Robbie Wiles were married February 24, 2014 on Robbie's 80 th birthday. They celebrated their 5 th anniversary in February 2019. Through this union, Alvin gained two step children: Dennis Griffin and Lanell Griffin Lown and a step grandson: Josh Lown. Also making Linda and Dennis step siblings. Alvin had a strong relationship with each of his siblings. Theda Mae took on a motherly role when Lola died and remained his closest confidant; calling and visiting daily until she passed in 2015. Vernee Duckett stepped in as needed the last four years. All of Alvin's family and friends know he was always large and in charge. If he asked you to do something, he expected it done right then. He loved deeply and unconditionally. He believed in working hard and living life to the fullest. Shoot to the moon.
